About the Pub
Recently renovated and re-opened as the Grafton Arms, this is a welcoming street-market sports pub, and charging very reasonably for food. Built as the Kings Arms in 1850, it was owned for many years by the Grafton family. Jimmy Grafton wrote Goon Show scripts upstairs for the BBC with Michael Bentine and Spike Milligan, who once served behind the bar. The Goons are commemorated by the plaque outside the pub, see photo.
