NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
A nationwide lockdown is currently in place in England, and you are required by law to stay at home. Hospitality venues can still provide food takeaway and delivery services, but can only sell alcohol by delivery service.
But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.
If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

About the Pub
Following a much-needed refurb in 2018, which thankfully both preserved the character and enhanced the decor, this pub reopened under Bermondsey Pub Company management. This is the original "wet-led pub" as there is no kitchen and no food is served (check with the staff regarding BYO). Some unusual ales can often be found here.
Now open at the weekend, it is popular with locals, civil servants and visitors alike and may become crowded at peak times.
Note the charming explanatory wall plaques on the outside of the pub.
Before the refurb there was a Parliament Division Bell in the pub but at date of writing this has not yet been reinstated.
Historic Interest
Dating from 1729 or earlier, the pub was first named the Castle, renamed Elephant and Castle around 1800 and became the Speaker in 1999. The area around the pub was, until clearance started in 1850, the erstwhile Devil’s Acre, London's very worst slum, according to Charles Dickens, albeit next to the world’s first public gas works. Noted by Westminster Council as an Unlisted Building of Merit.
