About the Pub

Opened just after the Second World War by a group of Czech expats. independent bar selling draught and bottled Czech lagers in former Czech club premises now open to all-comers. Specialises in cuisine from the region. TV with all the news from Bratislava. The Czech Bar is a much loved West Hampstead institution. The Czechoslovak Club was established in 1939 in Holborn, but moved to West Hampstead in 1946 after WWII.

The building was purchased with help from the President, and was originally a meeting place for Czech and Slovak immigrants, many of whom had fought alongside the Allied Forces during the war. The interior still retains many original features and hasn't changed much throughout the years. There are various rooms, including a bar and restaurant area, as well as a pool table.

The bar is open to the public and retains much of its original charm. It has a good range of Czech larger and beer. There is also a large beer garden at the back of the building, which is a great spot to enjoy the summer sun. A traditional menu of Czech and Slovak dishes are served on the menu. At time of the last visit in January 2020 a selection of Bohem brewery beers were on tap.
